Our History
Shortly after earning his Ph.D. in the United Kingdom, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya (DKO) returned to Nigeria and was serving at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research when he convened a prayer meeting in his living room. It was a Wednesday in 1989, and 24 brethren attended that first gathering.
Following the meeting, there was a persistent sense of divine leading to continue. As the meetings progressed, participants testified to remarkable manifestations of God’s power, with verifiable miracles occurring among those present. News of these happenings spread, drawing people from far and near who were eager to seek God. What began as a small prayer fellowship soon grew into a spiritual movement.
As attendance increased, the meetings were relocated to 60 Old Yaba Road, Yaba, Lagos, to accommodate the expanding crowd. Growth continued at an extraordinary pace, making yet another move necessary.
The group later acquired an abandoned slum at 13 Olasimbo Street, Onike, Yaba—a sizeable property near the second gate of the University of Lagos. That once-neglected site has since been transformed into the International Headquarters of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, where Dr. Olukoya serves as General Overseer. The name “Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministries” was divinely revealed to him during a time of prayer, and the church held its inaugural service on April 24, 1994.
Even after relocating to the new site, the influx of worshippers and those seeking spiritual help continued, resulting in a rapidly expanding congregation. This growth presented organisational and leadership challenges, prompting the adoption of a strategic structure. Under divine direction, the ministry developed a network of branches in every state capital, local government headquarters, senatorial district, and community.
Today, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries stands as one of the fastest-growing churches of its generation, with branches across the globe. Its first international branch was established in London, and it later expanded to the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. The ministry now maintains a strong and impactful presence on every continent.
